Itinerary

  • Thursday 3pm

Arrive and settle in! We have all 4 group campsites reserved at Stone Mountain State Park which will allow for plenty of room for camping as well as our workshop and class spaces. Camping space is a short walk from your car, so car camping equipment is perfect for this trip.

That evening we’ll start covering some basic skills that will help you through your foundation classes, like knots and compass & map skills.

  • Friday & Saturday: 8am - 12pm

Campers will be split into two groups that will switch classes on Saturday. Morning classes will be Backcountry First Aid & Navigation.

Backcountry First Aid will cover common injuries and concerns, recognizing & stabilizing severe injuries, and making an emergency plan. Bring along your bandanas, trekking poles, and extra layers as we will work on building solid splints and utilizing the gear we have.

Navigation course will meet up and prepare for a hike so bring along a day pack, water, and layers. Feel free to pack your own compass, otherwise we will have some to borrow. You’ll cover the essentials of reading maps and your compass before hitting the trail to use your skills in real-time.

  • Friday & Saturday 1pm - 5pm

Backpacking 101 is a lecture-style class that will introduce you to your “Big Three” and what to look for when buying them for yourself. We will also cover smaller essentials and talk about the different types and variations of our go-to gear. This will be a stationary class so bring along your notebook, layers, and chairs!

Survival 101 will cover what to do and what to expect if you get lost in the backcountry. We’ll introduce you to ways to make sure you have what you need to make it through those first 36-72 hours. Be prepared to think resourcefully and experiment with new tools and gear!

  • Sunday Morning

Sunday morning will be slow-moving as we start to wrap up and breakdown camp. This will be an opportunity to review skills and ask any questions that popped up during the trip. If you are new to backpacking and have new gear, feel free to bring it along to have our Backpacking Skills Instructor do a shakedown and discuss packing techniques and ways you can improve your pack.

  • Evenings

Evenings will be open for you to do whatever you please but we will be offering some shorter lectures, discussions, and workshops on various skills. We’ll get a fire going and enjoy hanging out with some like minded ladies!

This will also be your time to prepare dinner. Your meals will be up to you to plan and provide. You may want to bring along a cooler for food storage. There are a few small markets right outside the park as well as an Ingles roughly 20 minutes away.
