A Map & Compass is considered one of the 10 Essentials to pack while heading out to the wilderness but what’s the point if you don’t know how to use it? Time to learn! Not only This 3-4 hour class will introduce you to the following:
Anatomy of a Compass
Reading a Topographic Map
Understanding & Adjusting Declination
Using Bearings to Reach your Destination
Learn to Triangulate Your Location
This class is for women who…
looking for a backup method for navigation to their phone
want to start off-trail/bushwacking hiking
would like to get into orienteering
Liability
All participants are required to sign a liability waiver and emergency contact form prior to this event. Backcountry trips will have these formed emailed to you prior to the trip. Classroom-style events will have these forms in-person the day of.
Transparency
The money collected from this course goes to the cost of our permits to continue to operate these classes, reserved space, and supplies used for this class. Wild Forces Instructors are volunteers. Third-party events and guides are at cost, Wild Forces does not take any percentage of funds collected.
Cancellation
We can issue a refund up to the day before the class, June 4. We cannot issue a refund for day of cancellations and no show participants. Please allow 3-5 days for the refund to process.
This class is outdoors- 80% under shelter, 20% on the trail. It will run rain or shine. If weather is deemed unsafe, we will notify participants as soon as possibly and issue refund and/or option to reschedule.
