Backcountry First Aid

This is not a certification course but an option for those looking to learn how to take care of backcountry emergencies who may not need or have access to getting a WFA+ certification. We still strongly encourage participants to seek further education in the form of certifications if they can.

What we will cover:

  • Approaching an emergency scene

  • Recognizing life threatening symptoms

  • Patient assessment

  • Documenting

  • Making a plan

  • Environmental - Heat, Cold, Animals

  • Wounds - Bleeding, Burns, Blisters

  • Musculoskeletal Injuries - Sprains, Fractures, creating a splint

  • Understanding Certifications (This is not a certification class)

  • What to expect when you have to call for rescue evacuation

What you need to bring:

  • Whatever you bring on hiking/backpacking trips

  • Pen/notebook

  • Layers

  • Water, Snacks, Lunch

  • Face Covering/Mask



Cancellation

We can issue a refund up to the day before the class, March 13. We cannot issue a refund for day of cancellations and no show participants. Please allow 3-5 days for the refund to process.

This class is held under a shelter outdoors and will run rain or shine. If weather is deemed unsafe, we will notify participants as soon as possibly and issue refund and/or option to reschedule.

Transparency

The money collected from this course goes to the cost of our permits to continue to operate these classes, reserved space, and supplies used for this class. Instructors are volunteers. Wild Forces hopes to eventually sponsor professional training to women looking to grow in the outdoors.
